Why the need for change?

Last night I took my first attempt at some major html coding change. I was trying to get three columns. I found a couple of sites that walked me through it, I have always been a bit of a computer geek so I figured I would be fine. Well the first one didn't work at all, the second seemed to work until I started pulling my widgets into the left column then everything was suddenly gone from the right column!

So here I am back at square one. My husband kept asking me 'why do you want three columns?' And you know I am not totally sure. Is it because some of the blogs I adore have three columns? Is it because moving every two years changes the hard wiring in your brain and makes you desire change?

As I blog I find myself fighting to resist doing/writing things, just because someone else did it. I see other blogs and think, oh that is so cute! I like that! But then I try and remember why did I start this blog in the first place?

Sorry for the bad lesson I am about to teach to all my younger readers, but peer pressure. All of my friends were doing it! But really I think I wanted an outlet from my crazy wonderful kids. I have always liked writing; when I was little I would have told you I wanted to be an author when I grew up. The whole grammar thing helped me change my mind, so instead I graduated in psychology.

So here I am torn, going back and forth trying to decide who I am in the blogging world and trying to stay true to me in the blogging world.

So what do you think? Three columns, leave it all alone? Come on, I know you have an opinion, you blog after all! How do you keep true to yourself or do you just give in and copy everyone else?

Well enough ramblings for today. And for all of my coupon friends, my next coupon lesson is coming out tomorrow morning!!
Does your blog reflect the real you?

  1. What a GREAT post. Be yourself. That's all that matters. It is easy to get caught up in the blogging world of "keeping up," but not worth selling out.

Thanks for your visit and comment on my blog. Come back soon. I think I will be here more often.

  2. Sometimes change is good. Sometimes if it's 'ain't broke, don't fix it.' I like yours the way it is.

  3. Change up your blog only when you're bored with it. I like it how it is, but it's YOURS so change it if you want. And by the way, your blog TOTALLY seems like you to me. ;)

And it's stuff like blogging and journaling that help me figure out who I am.

  4. This is something I have to periodically check myself about. Every few months I re-evaluate my blog and myself. Why do I blog? Do I enjoy it? Am I able to say the things I really want to say? Or do I only say what I think my readers want to hear? Sometimes I guilty of peer pressure, but that's how I keep myself in check. Live and learn - just like everything else in life!

  5. My blog does reflect the real me--most of the time. I try not to hold back, to put it out there without offending anyone. I, too, like to change my blog around. But because I'm no techy, I usually just change the background.

And, I like the two column blog. It keeps things simple.

  6. On my blog I have a little button below the chatbox and I followed what it said on there. One thing I do also -- I have a practice blog set up to mess around on, and try the "new tweaks" so if they don't work, my real blog still looks okay. Just hide it from being viewed in your profile.

You have to add the snippet into the top part of your code about adding a 'newsidebar-wrapper' with all the detail, and then there is also a piece of coding that needs to go down towards the bottom part of the code where all the < > signs start. Give this website a try and see if you can figure it out.

I too consider myself a "computer" tech geek/nerd. So I googled it and I really like the look of the three columns, so you really just have to give your "little space" a touch to it that says IT'S YOURS!!

Good luck with it. It can become quite frustrating. Hope you can figure it out, if that's what you want.

  7. Thanks evwryone for the great advice. I think for the moment I am going to leave it, but don't be suprised one bit if they are lots of little changes :).

  8. I know what you mean about craving change. My blog background was the same for a while and I was worried that people would get bored of it and think I was lame-o. Then I was like "who cares" it's the words they are reading that really matter. Luckily I found a new one that I really like and I plan on leaving it alone for a long time. This way I can just focus on my posts and not have to spend time on what the colors and stuff look like. That's just me though:) I think your blog looks just fine the way it is.

  9. Personally I like the three column but that's just because I think things look better in three's. It's a personal preference. I'm trying to remember what site I used to figure out the three column. It was a pretty good one. I'm pretty sure it was this one.

If you feel like a change and it's not going to stress you out then go for it!

I want to change things up a bit for a more patriotic look for the Summer but I don't know if I will have the time.
