Restaurant Nightmares

A few weeks back The Meanest Mom talked about a fun little restaurant trip she had with her kids. Which reminded me of one of our best restaurant trips.

We usually go out to eat once a week. Come Friday, well I am sick of cooking and it is nice to get out. After I had Alex I was home-bound for a while, espeically since she was born via c-section. But time passed and we decided it was time to go out for the first time as a family, now with our newest member. We headed to Denny's. If you have been to Denny's any time recently you have probably seen all of those cool/funky kids cups they always have on display, which you can purchase for more than twice the price of the drink. Lucas asked for one, and we thought, why not. He has been a great new big brother.

So they brought out his cool cup filled with lemonade; he was in heaven. Eric and I sat and visited and enjoyed the moment with our now expanded family. Alex was peacefully sleeping in her her carrier and Lucas happily sipped at his lemonade.

The food came and we all happily and quickly ate our food. Lucas was doing an awesome job eating his chicken strips, even feeding himself, which as a newly turned two-year-old didn't always happen. We were almost done eating and Lucas started to whimper a bit. He dropped his last piece of chicken and whimpered some more.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.
And then he lost it, all of his dinner, all of that lemonade, all over the table. We grabbed a bunch of napkins and wiped it all up as good as we could and threw the napkins on our now empty plates. And then, well then we left. We were definitely not hungry anymore.

What is your best restaurant experience?

  1. Um, thanks for sharing. I don't think I'm hungry anymore either.

  2. My older sister had a similar experience. She had a three year old and an 18 month old who at the time they did not know was allergice to dairy. They were at Pizza Hut and the 18 month old threw up all over the place. They just packed up and left.

  3. Did you change your blog design? I love it!! I totally love the header.

Such a cute photo, I love how babies eyes look like they are about to pop out of their head when they are happy. I just want to pinch the cheekies.

  4. No vomit stories, thankfully. But we've had wet pants on more than one occasion.

Love the new look of your blog.

  5. That is quite the story!! Our worst was probably when my oldest was 2. We went to Outback and she didn't want to sit in the high chair. She screamed and threw a fit. I even let her sit in the booth and she still threw a fit. So...I marched out of there screaming while my hubby got our food to go--UGH!! Could have been worse, at least no throw-up :)

  6. We try to avoid sit-down restaurants unless we are without kids. My three yr-old only eats the ketchup anyways.

  7. We've never had anything like that happen, just the usual whinning and crying stuff. Glad you managed to eat before that happened though!

  10. Oh my, that is a killer eating out story! The kind you keep in your pocket while other friends tell about their whiny or picky kids eating in a restaurant and then at the perfect moment you pull it out!

On a side note, I think I accidentally deleted myself from following you for a period of a day (no idea how!) any way all is well again :)

  11. Oh my gosh, Emmy! When I first read the title I thought oh no...then as I read it I was like, Oooh! And then I said, "OH NO!" HAHAHA! Poor thing. Poor you, post partum and all. The closet I had to that happening was we had just eaten dinner at KFC and were on our way home. Kristin was crying a little, saying her tummy hurt.(she was like 5) Then she belched a little and then a great big one...turns out that big one was a bit more than a belch. Did you ever go back to that Denny's? haha.

  12. Oh yuck.

I don't really have a story for you but now I'm going to work on getting my husband to agree to eat out every Friday!

  13. Okay I am thinking about it and vomiting in a restaurant is not immediately coming to mind so I think maybe I have avoided that particular brand of mommy embarassment. Now screaming face down on the floor stories...I have tons of those!

Poor guy! Did you remember to take his special cup home?

  14. hahahaha! At least you got to finish your dinner! Of course, I always start to feel sick when one of my kids is throwing up! We have had MANY interesting restaurant moments.

  15. Oh, heart break! I don't have any fun stories at all. Just the typical crawling under the tables, throwing things, wanting to sit with mom, no dad, no mom...etc. Can't wait to hear how it goes with three!

  16. Oh no! We've never had an incident like that, but we've had plenty of screaming, crying, and spilled drinks. I love the picture you chose. They look adorable like, Could you possibly imagine us misbehaving?!

  17. ahhhhhh!!!!!!! i've got nothing that compares to that, but there was an airplane incident last year. were you reading my blog then??? when brennan's milk shot two rows ahead of us on the plane, drenching everyone and their posessions along the way...sigh...still makes me want to slouch into my seat. mortifying. all i could do was pass baby wipes toward the front.

  21. I had traveled to an out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere town with my husband on business. There was only one motel cafe in town. While I was eating my mashed potatoes, I suddenly found a surprise, a nice, dead fly! I cannot tell you how sick I felt and I scooped it onto a spoon to show the waitress. Her response?

"I'll get you a new spoon," she said.
