Moving- The Easy Way

I move a lot.   Growing up this was not the case and I lived in the same house until I went to college.  Now, with my husband's job we move about every two years on average, many of these moves have been to different states.  Shortly after I had graduated from college we had our first home built.  We were living in an apartment about a mile away from our new home so we figured this would be an easy move.

In fact, we figured it would be so easy we did not bother to pack anything.  We figured it would be easier just to load it on the flat-bed trailer we were borrowing, load the clothes into the back seat of the car and take it over this way.

Let's just say those that were helping us move were not too happy about this and we soon learned that this was not the best way to do it.

Now with our frequent moves, we have almost perfected the system.  We have a running check-list of addresses we need to change, utilities we need to get switched off and on in our new location, and everything else you can think of and may not think of.

But what if you have never moved- how would you even know where to start?   David Gregg and Libby Langdon have collaborated with America's leading cable companies to create www.cablemover.com.  This site is like your one stop shop for connecting your cable Internet, TV and phone along with other time and budget-saving moving tips.  There are even tips about arranging your furniture in your new place!   Cablemover.com really is a great free resource for anyone that is moving.

Here is a little video highlighting their site

The best part- they have generously offered a $25 Visa Gift Card to one of my readers!  All you have to do is just go to their site-cablemover.com tell me something you liked or learned-- then come back here and leave a comment telling me what you liked.

  1. I liked the article "Box it Up - Moving a Mountain of Belongings". Specifically, I like the suggestion, "Don't take anything to your new home that you don't love, or think is useful or beautiful." It's too easy to move crap back and forth. That's never very efficient.

  3. I hate moving. We moved multiple times when I was growing up, and it was hard on me. Our last move was literally 15 feet behind us {we built a house right behind our manufactured home}, and we thought, "oh, this will be a piece of cake, no packing, just hauling it out the back door". I swear, we lost sooooo many things in the move. Just vanished right into thin air!

  4. I hope I don't have to move again anytime soon. I keep reminding Todd that we're NEVER moving again, but deep down I doubt that is true. I just hope to hang on for a few good years! :)

  5. Having moved so many times in the past you learn all kinds of tricks. My personal favorite is lighting. I learned early on that I neeed light and lots of it. So I really love the lighting tips. And how they give you ideas on how to update what you already have so you don't have to go and spend loads of money. Light opens a room and makes it happy. Of course natural is best, but you have to work with what you got!

  7. You must be a pro by now, because that is a LOT of times to move.
Great tip to pack all of the cables and remotes in the same box...duh...it's so simple, but I'm sure I've never done this before ;)

  9. Ugh. moving. I think it is important to have a plan though. I like what they said about having a plan when you first move in specifically with furniture.

  14. I'm just like you. My parents still live in the house to which they brought me home from the hospital, but when I was married, we moved every two years. Now I'm on year 5 down here and I feel overrun with clutter... moving forces you to purge, so you never collect too much STUFF! Our moves were always cooperate relo, so I never actually had to pack myself until this last one, which is probably why I'm still here!

  15. Moving is a pain in the butt and I've had to endure lots of moves. Not as many as you but I like your check list idea! Since I have our house for sale, I'm going to save that website. Thanks!!

  16. We've been in our house for 15 years. I can NOT imagine moving. And how hard it would be. Glad to know this site exists!

  18. I have moved a couple of times within my life, no exciting amount though! The site was pretty awesome - and I have taken away ways in which I shall move my furniture around (furniture arranging 101) in my new bedroom (changing rooms in the house)!

  20. Oh my goodness, moving! We do it all the time and it's never easy...although, I can imagine it is easier if all your stuff's in boxes. So funny! ;-)
