Now That My Kids Are in School

Everyone keeps asking me what I do with all my time now that all of my kids are in school.  Yes for three glorious hours a day- five days a week, I am totally kid free.  So what do I do?

1. I eat whatever junk and snacks I want all morning long.

2. I watch HGTV, while pretending to fold laundry and eating chocolate.  Yes, it sometimes occasionally means I have to rewash clothes when I get chocolate on them.

3. I play games on my iPad, lots and lots of games.

4. I run through the stores skipping and laughing as I am shopping all by myself!

5. When shopping lots of things magically jump into my cart.  When you have time to browse, well it's dangerous.

6. I crank up the music as loud as I can and dance.

Okay so those all might have been completely false slightly exaggerated, okay maybe only some of them are true.

To be honest, even being almost a month into the school year, the mornings just fly by and I feel like I don't have any time to just sit around and enjoy the quiet.  Not to mention that I have volunteered to spend some of that free time at the school, with the children I am supposed to be getting a break from.

Crazy right?

Actually, it's not. I love being a mom.  I love being involved in my kids lives and being able to see a bit more inside of their worlds at the school.  I even kind of miss them when they are gone...

though I do like the extra chocolate I can eat.
My three crazy kids-- who would have thought I would miss them.
What stage of life are you in? Are your kids all gone at school, still home, just have fur babies?

  1. I don't have kids. I have my boyfriend's kids. He shares 50/50 custody with their mom, so things are busy because the kids are around all the time. And I love spending time with them. They are so fun and funny. But I have to admit, it IS nice that there are nights he doesn't have them and we can do whatever we want.

  2. My kids are back in school, but because I work full time, nothing changed much for me except that evenings are now full of homework instead of summer activities. Boo!

  3. This is my first year with all three kids in school all day and I'm loving my alone time. I go back to work next week teaching part time preschool so I know my alone time will disappear soon. I also volunteer in my kids' classrooms so the time just flies by.

  4. So is your little guy only in half days? 3 hours goes by FAST! Now that all of my kids on in full time I am volunteering and writing more. It's good. :)

  6. Well, since you asked....
I have never, ever, ever had that feeling of freedom that you describe. I have ten kids, with one more on the way. No matter if some are in school, there are always some home with me. Either the younger grades that I am homeschooling, or a toddler, or an infant, or a newborn. OR....a college kid who is on a break. My house is never kid-free. This year I have SIX in school full time. Wheeee! That's been pretty nice. It is somewhat of a break for me. However, that leaves my two year old home...without siblings to play with. So my days are super busy, because he wants me to play with him all the time. Which I love, don't get me wrong. But sometimes I wonder...what would it be like? to have them ALL in school for a few hours and I could be alone in my house. ALONE in my house? I seriously don't ever have that. Sometimes I stay awake way past midnight (after the last kid goes to sleep...those darn college age kids never want to go to sleep) JUST so I can see what it's like to have a quiet, kid-free house :)

  7. This made me laugh!
Liam will be starting preschool next year in order to receive his therapy services, and I'm not quite sure what I'll do. 3 times a week, I will be completely free. My husband jokes that I will be able to watch reality TV and eat chocolate, but I have a feeling my time alone will FLY by. The thought of grocery shopping alone is pretty amazing, though!
As for now, it will just be Liam and I 3 mornings a week this year. Lily starts MWF pre-k next week and it's going to be strange!

  8. I always ask people what they are talking about when they ask what I do with my free time. Three kids in school don't mean free time. Like you I volunteer with their schools and then loads of other stuff. Free time. I always find that question funny.

  9. I'm kind of jealous. Once I'm done with school I have to get a job. I want to be a SAHM to be there in Addison's life all I can. My mom and dad both worked so... I actually got to spend lots of great hours with my grandparents.
