Until The Summer Ends: A Book Review

The title of the book Until the Summer Ends by Elana Johnson, which I was given a copy to review, is suddenly striking me as very fun as our summer just ended this week.

Until the Summer Ends was a perfect summer read.  I even had an opportunity to interview the author.

The Book

Sophie Newton is determined to prove herself to her father, who insists she could never run a successful business. She opens a beachside taco stand called The Sandy Tortilla and plans to make her own way, one burrito at a time.

When she loses her summer help, Sophie rushes to find somebody to help take orders. She finds that somebody in Montgomery Winters, a struggling actor from LA. Mont takes the job; the money's useful, though he finds that his curvy boss is what really keeps him around.

As Sophie and Mont work together, they discover an intense attraction between them. But when Mont's agent calls him about a career-making audition, he decides he must pursue the opportunity, even though he can't get Sophie out of his head. Now, Sophie must choose between chasing after the man she's falling in love with and the business she's fought so hard to build.

Author Interview

1. When did you first realize you wanted to write a book?
Don’t laugh…I read Twilight, and I thought, “Hmm, maybe I could write a book.” I was turning 30 that year, and I spent some time writing my personal history, and the rest is well, history!

2. I am writing a book myself, and if it has been a while since I last wrote, I find myself spending my time reading it instead of writing more; how do you find time to write and how consistently do you add more to your story?
I’m a little bit of a freak. I write about 5,000 words/day, Monday through Saturday. I take Sundays off—which I think is important. We need time to refuel. I am a school teacher, so this summer has been my “summer of writing” as I’m trying to stay ahead of deadlines, both personal and publisher set.

3. What is your favorite go-to snack?
Toast! I absolutely adore everything about toast. Toast with lots of butter. Toast with peanut butter. Toast with butter and jam. I like it all!

4. What is your favorite part of Until Summers Ends (without giving away spoilers of course)?
Okay, so I’ve written a lot of books. I didn’t think this would be true, but it is. *whispers* I like some more than others. And UNTIL SUMMER ENDS is one of my favorites. I can’t really pinpoint why, but there’s something about it that speaks to me.

One of my favorite parts of the novel is the lighthouse. Mont goes there near the end of the book, searching for solace, and I just love that scene. Maybe because I often dream of being able to run down to the beach and steal the peace from the ocean waves! Not sure.

5. Do you have plans to write more books in the future?
Oh, definitely. I self-publish a western romance series under the pen name Liz Isaacson, and I have a book coming out next month, a 4-novella Christmas collection in November, and another book in January. I’m also starting a new series set in Montana in January. I have two books in that series written already.

And of course, there will be two more books in the Redwood Bay Romance series after UNTIL SUMMER ENDS. The second is called UNTIL WINTER BREAKS and should be out in early 2017. So yes! Many more books to come.

My Review
This is the perfect summer read; or the kids are back in school so you are looking for a fun read book.  I definitely found myself rooting for the characters.  I like their unique back stories and that the main character is someone who has a strength to work for something on her own when others told her she would fail. This is a good clean romance, which I totally appreciate and love.  Definitely recommend.
