"Butt" of the Joke

I don't like the heels of bread, you know what I am talking about, the end pieces or the butts as we call them around here. I don't like them, and neither do my kids. My husband doesn't mind them but he doesn't really eat bread that often.

So what do we end up with? Bags of bread with nothing left but the butts. Eric usually just tosses them, so as to not have a mess around. I told him we should save them to feed the ducks.

The other day I went to get some bread out for Lucas' usual breakfast of toast and banana. I saw several bags in my cupboard. I began pulling them out, nine in all, with two butts each. Several had to be tossed thanks to some pretty colors they were growing, and I combined the rest into one bag.

When Eric got home I told him about the nine bags. "Yes," he said "I decided to start just putting them in the cupboard to see how long it would take for you to do anything with them."

Woops, he caught me... and I guess that is his nice and non-nagging way of letting me know he doesn't want bags of butts around. Hmmm, don't think that is a phrase I will say around my kids too often!

  2. That's too funny! I like the ends of bread, but when I cleaned out my pantry to move here, I found about that many bags of little chip pieces. . .

  3. That is funny:) I've never heard them called butts before. You could always combine them into one bag and stick them in the freezer until your ready to feed the ducks. That way they won't be growing in your cabinets.

  4. I'm laughing because this same thing happens in my house ALL THE TIME! I'm glad I'm not the only one.

  5. It's the opposite over here; My husband likes those ends and me and the kids don't. Unless it's home made bread and the whole thing gets inhaled. I toss them when he's not looking. :)

  6. I only eat them off of 'good wheat french or sourdough' The rest we take to grandpas and feed to the birds. I also started keeping just one bag of the heals. I have the heals then I just throw them in the bag then chuck the other bag. This became a serious problem on my bread shelf in the fridge... I couldn't fit a loaf of bread among the bags of heals.... consolidation is wondermus.
