The Last Day!

Okay am I the only one or does it seem insane that tomorrow is going to be 2010?? This last year as I have been shopping, I am a couponer and a stocker so checking expiration dates is a must; I remember I would see 4/2010 and think oh, this is good for a super long time... when in reality it was only about 6 or 7 months. Crazy!

I remember the first year my mom was going to let me stay up until midnight... I think I probably made it to 10:30, watching the count down shows doesn't help you stay awake.

As a teenager and single adult I would go to church dances and dance the night away... but as an adult.. well I don't drink and we have kids so our plans usually aren't too exciting. Last year, we had a pretty amazing New Years Eve as after many years of marriage I finally convinced Eric to watch Pride and Prejudice with me; The Pride and Prejudice, the wonderful 5 hour version. Yep, I do have a wonderful man! But I did just finish watching the entire Rocky series with him so it is all about compromise (though I actually really liked the Rockies--except for Rocky V--by far my least favorite).

As I reflect on this last year, it has been a good year but there are definitely things I want to do differently.

So for all to see, and to hold me accountable, here are my goals for 2010.

1) Say my morning and evening prayers EVERY day
2) Play with each of my kids one on one, NO distractions, for at least 20 minutes every day--preferably longer
3) Read my scriptures every day
4) At least call all of my family members on their birthdays this year
5) Get my visiting teaching done at least every other month--but shoot for every month (worlds better than what I am doing now)

There are probably some others--but those are the big five. In July I will be having a baby so things will change a lot so I figure no need to write some super long list only to set myself up to fail.

What are your goals for 2010? Or do you even write them? Hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve!

  2. It seems crazy to me too that tomorrow will be a new year. I have to work tomorrow and it is going to be tough to right the date correctly. ;)

I hope that you have a great New Year!

  3. Great goals. I've been trying to figure out how much undivided play time with my daughter is enough. I don't want to shortchange her but 20 minutes is forever when you are playing "hi" (where 2+ toys talk and say hi to each other).

    Good luck!

  4. Great goals, many are the same as mine. Here's to another great year. I just wish we saw each other more often in a year! :)

  5. Never bothered with Rocky V. Haven't seen THAT Pride and Prejudice...I know.

I say nightly prayers but they have grown stale.

Now is a good time for the one on one. Good luck with that.

I am right there with you and I will be cheering you on! We can both do this.

Oh man...I could not do this. You know how big the Barton side is! Haha. Unless you are talking sibs alone then I could pull it off...haha.

*sigh* visit teaching. I am horrible. Maybe in the year to come.

These are grand goals. And I believe you can do it.

  6. I think with another child on the way, these goals are doable and realistic and will probably help keep you sane!

    Happy New Year!

  7. Isn't goal setting so much fun!?! And reaching those goals? I think that is the most delicious feeling in the whole world! We aren't going to talk about not reaching goals... blech! Good luck with yours! I think they are fabulous and know that you can do them! Just plan for it and it will be easy! (says me who just failed on the easiest goal in the world... blech!)

  8. My goals for the year are still fairly vague so I have to sit down and think about them some more. Good luck accomplishing yours and I hope 2010 is a healthy, safe and joyful one for you and your family!

  11. Emily...I love your goals...some years I have set only one goal...because that is how my life was going...way too fast! (hmm...sounds like now...) I remember in 1997 I set the goal to be the one who put the toilet paper roll on the holder. That was tough enough for that year...but I did it. Hee Hee

  12. I'm constantly setting goals for myself, but I've never made New Year's Resolutions. Something about the finality of them being accomplished (or over) in a year, is unsettling to me.

I really like your 2nd goal. Coming from a big family, I think one on one time is really important, and I think 20 minutes a day is realistic. If I have children in the future, I just may use that idea!

  13. My goals are very similar minus the religious parts and calling my family. Okay, so they are not the same at all. But it continues to be a goal of mine to offer undivided attention to both my children each day. I have to set the timer for myself to insure accountability and keep all of my thoughts on the moment.
My other two very impressive goals are to drink more water and eat more fruit. Happy New Year.
