Dreams in Life

They say there is a time and season for everything in life.

--There will be a time where going out to eat will be less guess work as to if the kids are going to behave or not.
--There will be a time when I can go shopping by myself as all the kids will be at school.
--There will even be a time when I can peruse any hobbies and projects I want as my kids will be grown and married.

--But there will also be a time where the kids will say they want to go out to eat with their friends and not mom and dad.
--There will be a time when the shopping cart won't be filled with extra treats that the kids asked for.
--There will be a time where the house will sound so quiet that I won't have any desire to do my projects as I just want to be surrounded by noise and laughter.

So while the time is here and before the next time comes... I strive to find that balance. The balance of enjoying my children, enjoying this stage, but also not losing myself.

And this is one way I am not losing myself....
This picture represents my first paying job as a photographer.

  2. I'm at the point now where my oldest drives and my youngest will soon. Their weekends are spent socializing with friends. I'm free to pursue my interests, but some days I'd give anything to have them small again and curling up on either side of me to listen to a story.

    Enjoy this time, it's fleeting.

  10. YAY! Someone tapped into that amazing talent! Congratulations! That is so exciting!

I have the same feelings about photography. It gives me an outlet, it stretches me, it forces me to document and learn and grow AND it's MINE. Not losing yourself is so important.

  11. I was thinking about this yesterday when I was deciding whether to ship my little one off to a regular preschool or be a part of a coop and help in her class. I keep wanting her to grow up...but this process made me realize I seem to be wishing this time away...and I need to stop NOW! We are doing the coop...came to my sense before it was too late.

Congrats on your first paying job! That is truly awesome!

  13. Yay for you! That is great ... and I bet you feel terrific about it. The photo is awesome.

And I do think we need to remember that we are just in a season of our lives right now and seasons change. I'm sure we'll look back on this crazy kid-centric time one day and miss it with everything in our hearts.

Your words were like music to my ears, do you really mean that one day I won't have to buy ding dongs and twinkies?

  20. I totally get you on this one. There are SOOO many things that I want to do, but the diapers have to be changed and lunch needs to be made, and so on and so on.

Somewhere in the back of my head I know this time at home with my little kids is fleeting. But it's hard to embrace that in the day to day.
