Suffer to Be Beautiful

Why do we as women often suffer so much to be beautiful? How many makeup/hair products do you have in your bathroom? How long do we spend shaving, plucking, waxing? And how about clothes?

I am hating my wardrobe at the minute. Most of my maternity pants are still a little too big; I don't really like it when part of the belly panel shows below my shirt, not going to wear those yet. But my regular clothes, not even a chance. I do have a few pairs of pants that have the smaller bands that are perfect, but I am tired of wearing the same few pair over and over again.

Anyway, so last week I decided I was going to just buy myself something. I went to Target and they had some cute pants, but all with the big panels. However, they did have a really cute black dress, and I am always complaining I don't have enough Sunday clothes. I didn't bother trying it on, I had a three-year-old with me, knowing I could take it back if it didn't fit.

Sunday morning came and I was so excited to try on my dress. I try pulling it over my head just to get caught in this funny lining underneath it. What the?? It just did not seem like it was going to go on that way, so I decide to step in it. I get it on and try and pull it up, this lining is now all gathered around my chest. I can't breath! It was stuck, it is constricting and pushing in on my already baby-squished lungs. I am reaching up desperately trying to grab that lining and pull it down. Pulling, grabbing.. can't breath!!! Finally, get a good hold; got it! I take a big breath of air. I look at the tag, which I still had on the dress; "with slimming lining" it states. I think they should rename it "with cut of your air-supply lining".
Luckily the lining loosened up a bit as I wore the dress,

  2. Looks Cute, but what pregnant woman wants to wear a "slimming lining?"

  3. What a cute dress!! At least you managaged to wear it at the end. =)

  4. Dang! I don't even try to wear shoes like that when not pregnant. Of course, I have all the coordination of a drunk person taking a sobriety test, so that's not saying much. VERY cute though! What's with a "slimming linging" in a maternity dress anyway?!

  6. I love the dress, it's so cute. Perfect choice. Sucks about the lining. I rarely wear dresses so I wouldn't know.

I do though LOVE YOUT TILE. Since I'm remodeling I've been noticing paint colors and tile.

  7. That's pretty funny Em. I'd be slicing that lining right out! I'm impressed you got it on! It looks really cute on you too. And looking at the picture . . . I just can hardly believe you're really pregnant. Can't wait to see you in person!

  8. Me thinks those designers are fighting a losing battle if they are trying to slim pregnant women.

You're looking HOT! Perhaps that is one of the advantages to not being preggo in the heat of summer, I swelled up and my clothes looked like sausage casing.

  9. You look beautiful!
There are some clothes in my closet that should have come with special instructions.

Ya know, HOW TO FLIPPIN' PUT THEM ON!
I swear...there is this one shirt that I have been battling for 2 years now. I can not figure out how to get it on properly.

  10. It might be a pain to put on but it looks GREAT on you!!!

  11. You look adorable! How silly that they put a slimmer in the dress, especially that dress. If you pick a dress in a particular cut you usually don't need a slimmer to hide things. I'm not sure what they were thinking! Just glad you made it out alive!

  12. I'm impressed you kept trying to get it on...and it was well worth the effort; you look fabulous!! Do you know or are you going to find out what you're having?

  14. Well, regardless of the effort it took to get into it, that dress looks HOT. :) I bet Eric was loving how you looked at church. I just wonder how many times you'll get to wear it, if it was THAT hard to get on now, and you're only 21 weeks... :)

  17. Oh my goodness, you are so beautiful! I love that you found such an incredibly beautiful dress! And it is true, I have heard so many people say "fashion of comfort." What is that all about? I love to look nice, but I have got to fee comfortable at the same time, or it is a no go. But again you are gorgeous.

  24. You look cute ... but that sure is form-fitting!!!! I can't imagine it was very comfortable ... I mean, you do need to breathe when you are pregnant!!! I thought pregnancy clothes were all about being loose and flowy!

  25. Once again you look adorable! I believe you must be the kind of person who just seems to glow regardless of whether you are pregnant or not! And those shoes- wow -a knockout combo :)

  26. Whew, I had to take a deep breath after I read that! I am extremely claustrophobic and just reading that had me sweating.
    It looks fantastic though!
I have a problem with buying new things, and that little black dress would look great in my closet. But I'm not sure if it would make it out if it made me feel claustrophobic.
    Great story!

  28. Oh you look so CUTE! How funny that they would put a "slimming lining" in a maternity dress! I was given a dress with a lining in it a couple of months ago and it was confusing to put on. Then when I went to take it off, it got stuck! I almost started crying and told my husband that he was going to have help me cut if off. Of course he was laughing hysterically the whole time he helped me get it off. I absolutely panic when I feel like I can't breathe!
