Friday Confessional: Baby Edition

You always forget how tiring and difficult having a newborn can be until you are in the thick of it. So to give you a little insight, here is my Friday Confessional from the first week we were all back home.
  • During that first week I was covered with spit up, snot, drool and poop.
  • My kids bathed more than I did.
  • I may have forgotten to eat breakfast once or twice--and the meals I did eat were often not warm by the time I ate them.
  • I got at best 2 hours of consecutive sleep during the night... a refluxy preemie baby will do that to you.
  • I did get dressed everyday, though some days it was not until 4:00 PM.
  • And of those days I was dressed, there were a few where I walked around with my fly down as my pants are just a little too tight still.
  • And the poop, well it came in the middle of the night during an explosive diaper change. Lots of little dots on my underwear and bra.. and well my other nursing bra (yes I need more than two) was already in the wash... so I may have just wiped it down with wipes really good and then went back to bed.
  • But this is all okay as Eric watched all three kids so I could go shopping all by myself on Saturday and it felt so good.. it made me feel human again. And yes my fly was up while I was shopping; my bra was poop free and I even had my makeup done and brushed my hair, it was a good day.
  • Oh and it is all worth it as there is nothing as wonderful as holding and snuggling your newborn baby and knowing that they are completely dependent upon you but this is okay because they will love you even when you don't do everything perfectly (and they will have no memory of what you put them through as long term memories rarely go before the age of 4 or 5 very often.
So go check out the other great confessionals on Glamazon's blog. You won't be sad you did.

  4. Oh the joys of newborns. So hard . . . and so good too. I was definitly a sleep deprived zombie too, and with Madeline it lasted until she was 9 months old, waking up 7 times a night . . . at least she didn't explode poop on me!

GOod luck! We think about you every day!

  5. Congratz on your newborn! The funny thing, I'm nodding along with you, COMPLETELY understand where you are coming from.

At least this phase is temporary, right?!

  7. When Kristin was a baby I may or may not have gone out shopping with spit up on my shoulder, but I don't remember.

When Emily was a baby...when Emily was a baby....I may or may not remember.

When Ryan was a baby I may or may not have left him in his bassinet to scream it out. But I don't remember.

I will try very hard not to complain about being tired. You forget those times of sleep deprivation--thank goodness--and that is what real tired is.

  15. Having a fresh baby is so wonderful! My husband thinks I am crazy because I wouldn't mind having a baby again. My baby is six months old. I sometimes don't get showered until fifteen minutes before my hubby gets home from work. I don't know how I would do with another baby, but gosh they are wonderful!
