The Prom(s) That Didn't Work

I figured in order to try and get back into the swing of things with blogging, other than just writing about the baby, I would publish this post that has been sitting in draft for a while now. So enjoy:

Growing up I think every little girl at some point imagines that first kiss, her first broken heart and her wedding. And well let's not forget those magical things like prom. *cricket cricket*

What did you not picture your prom? Or if you did picture it I bet you didn't imagine anything like this: Three prom attempts=three miserable nights.

In my school prom was for Juniors and Seniors, so when I was invited by an older boy to prom my sophomore year I was ecstatic. But of course this boy invited me as he and I were dating. And he was the King, no not the prom King, but the King in Cinderella the musical we were both in. I was just a lowly chorus member and not only was he older but all the drama girls liked him. And so did I... well until we had been dating for a few weeks and the fun of the chase was over. So what did we do? Well broke up a week before prom of course.

Tickets to prom were $80 and nonrefundable so we decided to still go together. And well let's just say it was a bit of an awkward and miserable night. Honestly a lot because of me as I didn't dare want to give him the chance to think that I wanted to start dating again.

Me on the left, look at those curls!

Fast forward to my Junior year... Musical time again. This time it was a guy that didn't usually run with the musical crowd, in fact he was a football player. He just auditioned for extra credit for one of his classes... And well anyone in musicals knows that guys are always in high demand so he got a part. The flirting began, the chase...and he asked me to prom. But well he was a bit possessive and one night I chose to sit by my friends instead of him.. So a week before prom he calls me up and says he asked someone else to prom and offered to pay me for my half of the ticket. Luckily I heard from my friends that he had a miserable time.

And finally my senior year. Musical time again... But don't worry no drama boys this time. In fact I had a pretty serious older boyfriend. His family was having a reunion the time of my prom, so I just wasn't going to go. But one of my good friends insisted I had to go as it was my senior year and he offered to take me as friends. So I agreed. Most of the night was fine and good... It just got really annoying when he talked on and on about this girl he liked. Hello I had a boyfriend and I wasn't talking nonstop about him...I just wanted to have fun as friends.

Check out my awesome shoes!
And that 1990's film camera in my hand

So there you have it... three proms and three semi or total disasters. Was your prom experience as good as mine?

  1. My junior year I took my theater teacher's son because we were friends. It was ok. He was definitely a little "out there" and weird, but we had a good time. My senior year, I was dating the a-hole who would later become my ex husband. He acted annoyed to be there because he was older than me. We left early because he was bored. Do you think I maybe should have had a clue?

  2. My (then) gf and I broke up that evening because of me not wanting to sleep with her that night and her not wanting to dance a lot. Yup! Pretty crazy.

Is the second picture taken in front of your house?

  3. I was invited my Freshman year but then got uninvited, but he told everyone that I was making him go with me?! It was weird.

All the proms after that were with my now husband ;) - so not so bad!

    Cute pictures, Emmy.

  4. I had my dress made for my Junior Prom which turned out okay, but lets just say I was Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and the guy I went with--I made out with on the dance floor--which is not like me at all.

My senior year was with my boyfriend at the time and we double with our friends and it was a FUN night. I loved my dress.

  5. I didnt go to prom....and I dont think I missed out! When I was a freshman my boyfriend was a senior and could have taken me but neither of us was really interested in going. When I was a senior I was still dating the same guy, who was away in the military so no prom for me again!

  6. That's funny Em. I went to three proms and as I remember correctly, they all were pretty good! I was sort of a punk when it came to dances . . .

  7. My junior year I went with a sophomore who was a friend of my friends boyfriend (mouthful). I didn't really like him for more than just a prom date, I had a crush on someone else so I spent most of that one being miserable. My senior year wasn't so bad. I went with the guy I was dating and we had fun. It's funny to think back to it over 10 years later!

  10. Never went to prom, but as others above have said I really don't think I missed out on much. Maybe the whole getting dressed up and wearing a formal thing, that would have been fun.

  15. My first prom was awful. Went with a guy who turned out to be gay later. We stayed like 10 minutes before he insisted on leaving. My senior prom was everything I dreamed it would be. Cinderellaesque and so much fun.

  16. I only went to one and it really was OK. Not the beat-all-to-end-all but definitely better than yours:(

  17. ugh, prom was always such a build up and such a let down. junior year i went with my friend's cousin who looked like david archuleta, but i didn't know it at the time. he acted like him too. i didn't like him then either. senior year i went on the party bus as a non-drinking, non-drug doing mormon. it sucked. my date took ectasy. it sucks lots. the entire time he was up on the third floor staring at his hand. i was down on the dance floor sitting at a table or dancing with my friend and her boyfriend. did i mention it sucked?
