Who?

When I was little I never painted my nails.I hardly wanted my mom to brush my hair. Heaven forbid she ask to do a braid or ponytail. I would have nothing to do with it.

I changed as I got older. Out came the blue and green eyeshadow. Then it evolved to brown. The big barrel curling iron soon followed... but my nails remained bare."Paint my nails for me" I hear you plead regularly. "Look how beautiful" you admire when they are finished.

You head into your room to change your clothes, you like clothes with stripes."Paint my nails." you ask again a few days later.

Who's daughter are you? I wonder.

"Paint my nails." I comply.

"Can I do it?", you ask. I comply. It made your day, you very carefully and with full concentration painted each toenail and fingernail.

You admire your nails. Beautiful.

I ask if you would like your hair in a ponytail.

You will have nothing to do with it.

You are my daughter.See more great pictures and stories here

  1. Maybe she just likes playing with something messy. ;)

  2. My littlest is the same way. I am so not girly and sometimes I think God is getting a good chuckle out of giving me three of the girliest girls around.

  3. Aww. that is a sweet story. I'm not girly AT ALL, and sometimes I wonder if God gave me two boys because he knows I wouldn't be able to handle a little girl. ;-)

  5. I am so glad mine isn't the only adorable little girl who refuses to get her hair done. She wont even stand for a clip to hold her bangs out of her face.

  6. I had one frilly daughter, one who was not frilly at all. I am of the "not frilly" variety.

I let each one of them decide how to do their hair, and what clothes they would put on - giving them the freedom made all the difference.

  7. Aww so cute. Yup, I'm just like you. It takes me forever to change the color on my nails just because I'm too impatient to sit still long enough to let them dry.

  10. My girls loving having their nails painted, two just came in and asked as I am typing this. I love the mom/daughter time. Especially as they get older it is a great time to talk with them.

  13. You are such a cool mom to let your THREE year old paint her nails. And she did great!

  14. I love it! My daughter asks ev.er.y.day to have her nails painted so I know the feeling. I am pretty sure I was that way growing up but doubt I asked as much as she. Have a great weekend!

  16. what a fun window into your life with Alex :) While I like to wear skirts and I'm a little in love with my mascara, I'm not a girly girl by any means. I like to sweat and be dirty and heck- did you see my post about peeing in a funnel??! God knew what he was doing when he blessed me with a baby boy ;)

On a side note- do you get the Hannah Anderson catalog? There is such a sweet little girl in there who looks so much like Alex- I send you all a smile every time I catch a glimpse of her on the pages (here's where I admit HAD Bear been a girl, he'd have some cute cute clothes from Hannah Anderson by now!!!!)

  19. So funny that the kids can be so much like us and yet so different. I too am a naked nail girl. I can't wait to see how Faye is going to be.
