How Do you Say It?

A little while back my good from CA Girl followed her bloggy friend Nicole in making a fun vlog. This vlog asks you to say certain words and answer simple questions to show how you sound and what you call certain things. I grew up in the midwest, which is supposed to have the most common (or smallest) accent, so well you can be the judge of that. Feel free to play along, by either leaving a comment telling me if you say it differently or by making a vlog of your own.

Words to say:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

The Questions:
      • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
      • What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
      • What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
      • What do you call gym shoes?
      • What do you say to address a group of people?
      • What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
      • What do you call your grandparents?
      • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
      • What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
      • What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

So here it is

And don't forget to check out my photography blog for my Monday post!

  1. First off, you look very pretty in the video! I didn't realize your hair was so long. I think it looks really good!!!

I think the only one we say differently is crayon. I say the crayON. :)

  2. Do you know what a potato bug is here? A Jerusalem Cricket. They are big, ugly and look prehistoric! Haha. You didn't sound too stuffy. I sure hope that is over for you and nothing new has come of it.

  3. How fun!! I'm not about to do a video, but I call the tv channel changer a clicker and bubbly carbonated drink is called soda. (I'm from the West coast)

  4. How fun! I'm kind of tempted to do this too, just because I've had so many people ask me what I sound like, but I get to uncomfortable in front of the camera.
I think I say everything pretty much the same way you did though!

  6. You are so dang cute! And did you ever find out what you call it when it's raining and the sun is shining?? I didn't know that had a name either.

  7. You are gorgeous!
And we say all the words the same... except for mayo and crayons. for me they are "may-a-naise" and "Cray-ons." It is so funny how a little thing like location could make such a difference in how we speak!

  8. YAY for pop!! We always said pop and come to find out people around here call it soda a lot. Weird!

  9. You sound like me for almost every word! When you said you were from the Midwest that explained why!

  11. I think I sound like you...no accent. AZ people arent known for accents either. Except I say soda, but as a kid always said pop lol

  13. I love this! The idea is brilliant and I'm thrilled that I finally got to 'meet' you ... you know, in semi-real life!!

I might think of some nifty way to do this without showing my face ... you know, being so private and all! But I'm thinking that might be a little creepy!

  14. I may have to do this! Our answers would be pretty much the same which makes sense since we are both from the midwest!

  15. Crayon is the only different one I noticed. I wonder if that is what you would say if you heard me say all that stuff!

  16. What a fun vlog! Believe it or not, accents are obvious in lipreading too! So I can usually tell the difference between "tomato" and "tomatoh" :)

    You are so cute!

  17. We use the same dictionary up here, but I'm not sure we have any potato bugs. You speak very clearly, especially for somebody with a cold!

  18. OK, you don't sound too different than we do here in upstate NY! I say mayonnaise a little differently, call pop soda, and don't think I've heard potato bugs being called roly polys but other than that it's all the same. :) I'd do a video but I don't have a webcam.

Oh, and I think when it rains while the sun is shining it is called a sun shower, but maybe not.

  19. Another midwest girl here!

You are too cute, seriously! The only thing I say differently is 'soda' instead of 'pop' but that's because I've worked years on 'fixing' it in my head ;)

    I'm weird like that.

  20. You're cute! I want to do this sometime. Though most of mine are lame cause I have hardly any accent. Bummer...but still would be fun!
