Botox on an Eight Year Old

Pretty much every parent out there wants their child to succeed. They dream of them being valedictorian, the star quarterback, first chair in band, the lead cheerleader-whatever their dream may be. Often these dreams come from goals or aspirations that the parents had as kids or teenagers that were never obtained. And when the parents can't see the line between their hopes and their goals and their child's is when issues will arise.

I think we have all heard of some of the crazy cheerleaders moms in Texas who have even physically hurt others to ensure their daughter made the squad. And we have probably all seen a few parents yell at each other during kids sporting events. And then there are the beauty pageants for little girls who have barely learned how to walk.

Now this post is not intended to slam beauty pageants. Both of Eric's sisters won their city's pageants and competed at state level. I even judged a county pageant once-and let me tell you it helped me gain a lot of respect for the hard work and time most of the girls put into it; their talents, practicing for the interviews, working out and toning to look their best during the swimsuit portion.

The problem arises from mom's like the one in northern California. This mom gives Botox injections to her 8-year-old daughter before her beauty pageants. Yes 8-years-old! She says she does it because it is a harsh environment in the pageant world and some of the other parents told her that they do it- "everyone's doing it"-isn't that something a child would say not a 34 year old mother!?!? Here is a clip with an interview with the mom and her daughter.

When I heard about this story, I was disgusted and outraged. Sometimes kids need extra pushes and incentives to do their best-but giving injections to an 8-year-old to get rid of smile lines-well that just goes too far.

What do you think?

  1. First of all...you beat me! hahaha. Actually I forgot about it because the skechers was the first one. But then I saw this...and wow. I was sick! And the mom, is an idiot. And I'm not saying that she is an idiot for giving her child botox(which she is) I am saying she literally is an idiot. And I say someone should call CPS on her and anyone else doing that to their daughter. UGH! *Stepping off the soapbox and running to the end of the line to get back on* This is a good one!

  2. I heard about this on The Doctors yesterday and I can't even begin to say how this disturbs me. That poor girl. She's so young - and her mom puts such a premium on looking good. What about feeling good about who you are? For the mom: What about realizing that growing old is just a part of life and you should accept it? There's something to be said about growing old "gracefully". I wonder what the old beauties would think of this (like the actresses from the 40s and such). I feel so bad for this girl. Her mom has screwed her up for LIFE!

  5. This makes me so sad.

How is this girl ever going to think she is pretty and beautiful and perfect if her whole life she has been told she needs this and that to look nice.

It is such a shame. I wish I could hug her and tell her those dimples are the cutest ever and to never try to change them! :(

  6. One of the sad parts is how simply beautiful she is right now and how we all know, as women, what exactly this will do to her self-esteem in the years to come.

    I'm just sick.

  7. I have lots of bad things to say about that mother, but I'll restrain myself. And restraining myself has left me without words.

  8. This is insane! And I think that I read or heard that the child was removed from her custody.

I think that giving the child botox is wrong but the message that this little girl is getting it terrible.

Also, I just have to say that in the pictures where she is actually giving the injections she is only wearing one glove and it is on the wrong hand. It should probably be on the hand that would come into contact with the blood.

    What a dumb ass.

  13. Such a thing should be punished before it could start a trend. Because I'm sure other insane mothers have thought about this, so authorities should teach this "mother" a lesson before is to late.
A friend from a botox Ajax clinic explained me that this is forbidden and that for sure doctor refused to do this and that's why she did the shots.

  16. This is so messed up and twisted. Not right at all. I'm amazed a child in this kind of home would even be able to get smile lines. Sick sick sick.
