The Party That Went All Long

What is the longest kid's birthday party you have ever been to? I am not talking about a family member's party where you stay for hours afterwards as it's family. I am talking about a friend from school kid's birthday party. I hit a new personal record this weekend.

I took Lucas to a birthday party for a friend from school that was scheduled from 12:00-5:00-- but wait check that, the party didn't end, or I should say we didn't leave the party (it wasn't close to over) at 5:40 PM.

That is almost six hours people.

It was a pool party, it had been beautiful all week. On Saturday it started raining (halfway through my 4 mile run as a matter of fact-- my second half trying to get back to my car was a bit faster) So, I called the parents assuming maybe it would be cancelled thanks to the rain and the high in the low 60's- but the party was on. The pool would be all heated up.

When we arrived at 12:20 there was only one other guest there. I passed a lot of time talking to the 17-year-old brother that got roped into bringing his younger brother to the party. But after about two hours I was done. And then when it started raining but the kids continued to swim- I was really done.

Lucas however, was not. Having the time of his life, being more brave in a pool than he has ever been. So we stayed. The heat from the pool and the cool air soon made steam rise from the water and off of the kids whenever they would get out of the water to go down the slide.
Around 4:30 I convinced Lucas to get out of the pool, we were ready to make our departure but wait- they are about to do the pinata! And they did- at 5:00, and then wait- there is a second pinata-- and now cake! Finally at 5:40, we walked out the door, Lucas carrying his cake on a paper plate. As this momma was ready to go.

Do you have a record to beat that?

  2. Ummm no. I'd never agree to a party that long. I know my limits.

So was Lucas and the other boy the only 2 guests who showed up for the party? I guess in that circumstance, I might have stayed a little longer just to keep the birthday boy from being sad, but still, 5 hours is wayyyy too long.

  6. Um, that is FLAT OUT ridiculous. We do parties up big here in Texas but I would never have a party last that long or attend one without a REALLY good excuse for leaving early. You should have just left and ran errands, hell you could have seen 2 movies! wow.

  9. You are a better person than me. We would have been DONE! How rude to make guests hang around allllll day on a Saturday! Emma's parties are 2 hours. That's it. And I'm ready for everyone to leave at that point too.

    Geez. You poor thing.

  11. Wow, that is a very long party! I don't think I would have stayed unless the parents requested it or my son needed me there. You're a good mom to have done that!

  12. Okay...I thought the 17y/o was the older brother. I had no idea he was an older brother to a guest! Poor kid. And why two pinatas??? I would have gone crazy. I don't think I have ever been to one that long.

  16. Wow … that is way too long for a kid's party. Really. My goodness. I don't know how you survived. I think that is a bit out of control to be honest.

  18. My step-daughter went to a pool party the other weekend where the parents rented a hotel suite for all the kids to stay the night in. Unfortunately for my step-daughter she didn't get to stay because it was our weekend to have her and we haven't seen her a whole lot lately with her hectic cheer schedule, but dang! I don't remember birthday parties like that when I was a kid.

  22. Wow that was a long party. But I have to say that I don't ever remember staying with any of my children at a party. It was always a drop off and then pick them up when they were done thing.
I don't think my kids would have ever gone to anyone's birthday party if I had to sit through the entire thing for 5 kids - ugh!!

You are a good mom for staying so long when your boy was having fun!

  25. What great pictures!! That's a long one! The pool parties can last a long time. I'm now a veteran of the tween and now teen sleepover and I will say that for me, that was not only the longest party but the longest night of my life. Second only to the night the same child was born!! Lol! Looks like your guy had a great time!! What fun to find your site! Thanks for visiting me! I'm now happily following and looking forward to reading and seeing more great photos! Take care!!

  26. That is crazy long. You are a better sport than me!

When we have parties with some of our close friends, it goes all day. BUT, I do everything up front...cake, presents, games, etc. so that anyone can leave at any time. Most people stick around though.

  32. Oh, that pool looks so good! I can see why they wanted to stay! My longest party? Lucas baptism in France. 11 am at the church then our house for LUNCH. Lucas was 9 months old and I was a tired new mom. At 8 PM I asked my good French friend WHY, oh WHY are people STILL here. She said, oh they don't want to be rude!!!!!!!!! Rude? I invited them for lunch. Had to start making dinner for people. The last left at 11 p.m.
