Our Busy 4th

Happy Day After the 4th!  Or is there such a thing?  When kids go to bed two hours late it can make for an interesting July 5th.   But so far so good- fingers crossed!

We started our 4th by watching Eric in a 3 on 3 basketball tournament.  His team won it all- in fact they won every single game (one was 20-2).  But as one of the other players said- Eric is one of those guys that if you are on the opposing team and you see him come onto the court you kind of say oh shoot.  I'll admit it is quite fun to be married to the guy that makes the other players know they are out of luck.

Then we had some good old fashioned burgers at Fudruckers for lunch. And have you seen how Alex eats her cookies.

Yep that little pile of broken up pieces on her napkin.  Strange child.

The afternoon was pretty chill with a nap for Ryder and games on the iPads.

Then at dinner our big lunch made us not really hungry for the pork chops we had marinating- so instead we had hard boiled eggs and muffins for dinner- how unAmerican!

Then it was time to head to the fireworks.  Our city has a big firework display that they light off from the stadium; but we join a ton of the town and sit along the street or in the Home Depot parking lot where the view of the fireworks is great (and free).

We kept the kids happy with lots of snacks and then it was finally time.

Ryder was sitting on my lap staring at the fireworks-he hardly seemed to be moving.  I asked him if he liked the fireworks- at which point he turned around and clung to me.

And that- or with Eric holding him is how he watched the rest of the fireworks.  Guess he wasn't a fan.

 But Lucas and Alex...
this picture doesn't even do it justice Alex was clapping with delight and just so thrilled- it was adorable!

Overall it was a wonderful holiday.  How did you celebrate the 4th?

  1. Sounds like you had a great day. I love the look on Alex's face with her clapping. We didn't go to the fireworks. We would have gotten rained on. We stayed home and grilled out. The neighbors lit off some ground fireworks that my daughter just loved watching. We will see fire works right from the front yard in August from Shanty days.

  9. What a day. The sound of fuss ruckers makes me want burgers today. I see Alex's excitement. We relaxed most of the day and let the kids play in the pool later in the day.

  11. We went to a parade in the morning and spent the afternoon at my sister's house. In the evening, we stayed home. I wanted to see fireworks, but I still think my girls are still a bit young, which makes me kind of sad. :( But, I look forward to when they will be able to stay up later and enjoy them. I love your pictures! It looks like you all had a blast!

  14. Our kids went to bed at 11:45p last night! They have been fine today but I'm the one having trouble staying awake!

Fireworks are so fun when you get over the loud noises!

  19. Oh, poor Ryder. I guess fireworks can be a little scary and overwhelming for little ears.

  20. Poor scared little guy! Fireworks can be scary when so young. Honestly, I am not as impressed by the colors etc as I am by the boom. I love the bone rattling booms. That is my favorite part, which terrifies my kids.
Ha! Love the pride you have in Eric's b-ball skills. That is so sweet. Too bad the other guys have to play on a team opposite him. :)
Glad your 4th was wonderful! Can't wait to discuss it and everything else with you.

  26. Aww poor Ryder! I think most kids aren't a fan until they're a year or two old. I LOVE that delight on Alex's face! Such a joy!

  28. My four year old didn't watch at all. Just ran around, then started complaining that I didn't bring any cookies to eat. She didn't seem to care that she just ate an entire shaved ice.
