So Cold in California!

We gathered round the radio, still in our pajamas, fingers crossed that we would hear what we were hoping.

The predicted low for the day was -20 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chills making the temperatures more like -50.  A Chicago winter at it's worst! They were telling people to not leave their homes, so we just knew, school had to be canceled.

And it was- for three days in the winter of 1994.   My poor brother was the paper boy and still had to deliver the papers.  He divided the route up; delivering a few then returning home to try and warm up before going out again.

**********
Fast forward 19 years while I walking out of Target responding to a text from Eric.

"I don't know if I want to go to Knotts today! It is so so cold.  Feels bite you to the bone cold."  I replied as I hurried to the car.

And it was cold-- at a bitter 45 degrees that morning, well us poor people in SoCal we're absolutely freezing!

So yep, those of you that live somewhere that actually get's cold- laugh away.  As it really is pretty pathetic but really it feels so cold-- and today when the low dipped to 30-- holy cow, I thought I was going to turn into a popsicle!

And you have to watch this clip from Jimmy Kimmel- too funny and so accurate.

  1. That is too funny!!

While you were freezing, we had 60 degree weather on Saturday! It was crazy. Of course, we're back to super cold today (it was 21 on my way into work).

  2. I remember when the temps went up into the 40's in the Spring in Michigan. We would go without coats and open windows, etc. LOL

  3. That is so funny!!

We hit 60 this weekend and it was awesome! Now its back down in the 20's. Mother nature was teasing us LOL

I love when Jimmy Kimmel said he had to wear 2 tank tops to work :))

  4. We are normally in the 30's-40's this time of year, but were at a balmy 70 this weekend. I guess we traded!

  5. I just checked the weather. -2 right now. It is true, though that our bodies become accustomed to the weather where we lived. I once lived in Colorado where it was constantly negative something. When i would go home to visit UT it was around 30 and i thought it was so warm! I went around without a coat.
Hope you can survive your "Arctic temperatures!"Sending thoughts your way.

  9. I love it! That clip cracks me up every time I see it. It's zero degrees where I live right now - the high for the day is 12!

My brother went on his mission to LA, CA - and he has never been able to warm up since he came back to Utah! He's always cold!

  10. Ha! That clip cracks me up! It does get colder here than Hollywood, but certainly not as cold as somewhere like Wisconsin. It was 20 degrees when I went on my run today and I was bundled up like a mummy! I'm like you - if it's below 50, it all feels the same - stinkin' cold!!! :o)

  11. We were -21 this morning. We are supposed to hit a high of 4 today. I'd have been much happier staying home and sitting by the nice warm wood stove.

  12. It's funny, but the older I get the more I hate the cold! I can't imagine what I'll feel like when I'm actually old. Maybe it's just burn-out from all those Chicago winters. ;) It's also starting to swing 30 degrees at a time here, so it's harder to adjust when it's 50 one day and 20 the next.

  13. I hadn't seen that clip, but it's hilarious! I lived in Chicago that winter--it was BRUTAL!
Our lows around here have damaged all the trees, and yesterday our high was 48. I don't care how wimpy I sound--that's COLD!

  14. That's hilarious!

Just last night, I looked at the temps for the week and realized we were up into the 45/50 degree range and shouted with excitement to my cousins that it's going to be warm out! Here, that means there's no need for winter jackets - and can go out with a sweater!!

Hope you hold tight while handling the cold!

  15. I feel ya!! Today it was 31 when I left the house and sleeting. SO COLD!! Our highs this week in E Tx will be in the 40s and there is a chance it will snow on Wed. I know people think we are crazy but if there is any snow on the ground I'm going to be late to work haha.

  17. My husband stood in 7 degrees temps at the Bronco game for 5 hours on Saturday. I can't make it 5 minutes standing outside to pick up my kids.

  18. LOL!! cold... 45 degrees is like a heat wave here at times! And the 60 degree temps that we had this weekend were beyond strange! Today though we're back to freezing cold & wind.

  19. It is all what you are used to, isn't it? Me? Minnesotan...45 is a heat wave!

  20. Bwhahahahaha! It hit 50 degrees here over the weekend and our local news was talking about how we were having a heat wave.

  21. Brrrr. It's been in the 30's here, even the 20's a few nights. YIKES!!!

  22. 12 degrees here in Utah and sometimes at night drops to "0" in the past few days. Practically froze the hair off the nostrils when you walk out. LOL.

  23. My parents in AZ got snow twice while we were there. I went to the States to get warm weather and ended up with snow. Yikes.

  24. That's too funny...it has actually been pretty warm here this winter...but just dropped to the 30's today.

  25. Its hot and cold here so much that I can't get used to one temp long enough to enjoy it. Today we had ice and snow- and I hate being cold-- honestly, I'm happiest when its 74 and that's the temp my house is at all year long. Its crazy how the temps are this time of year.

  26. I'll take your weather any day right now! We woke up to 12 degree weather.... ugh!

  27. Too funny! I'm a transplant from Cali, so I totally understand the subjective definitions of "cold"! :)
