Ten Things I Didn't Know Until I was a Mom

Mother's Day is coming up so I was looking through some of my old posts about motherhood, I came upon this one from over two years ago that I thought I would share.

Ten Things I Did Not Know Until I was a Mom

1. That there are lots of bad words out there.  The ones most know about, the f-word, etc..... and then the three letter word that I did not know until I was a mom...WHY?

2. That no matter how many books you've read, how educated you think you are, once you have kids there will be times you feel like a complete idiot.

3. That one person can drive you completely insane but you will still keep loving them.

4. How poop and pee and other bodily functions will become a part of your everyday conversation.

5.  That no matter what the day has been like, when you check on them sleeping peacefully in bed it makes everything okay.

6. That one word, when heard for the first time, can melt your heart instantly... mama.

7. How little sleep night after night you can somehow function on.

8. No matter how independent you may have once been, once you have a two-year-old you will need a friend to vent to.

9. How you can suddenly find anything and everything to worry about, if you let yourself.

10. That the only way I am going to be able to successfully raise my kids is if I understand my limits and realize that I cannot do it alone and that is completely okay

What have you learned since being a mother?

  1. That unless you lock the door when in the washroom, you will always have visitors. When I get my bath at night, I usually have both kids on the side of the tub talking to me LOL

    1. Oh yes! So true! I am finally hitting the stage where my kids mostly seem to leave me alone when I am in the bathroom… mostly :)

  2. That I thought I was a patient person until I had kids and then I realized I wasn't at all. And that I have more room for love than I even imagined was possible.

  3. That you can accomplish most any task with just one hand if you have to!

  4. That nothing sounds better than the silence you hear after the kids go to bed.

  5. Great post! I think the most important thing I've learned is to just relax sometimes. Not everything is going to be exactly how I want it to be but that's not necessarily bad.

    1. Yes! It is easy especially if you have an idea of how you want things to be in your head to get disappointed but it doesn't usually do any good in the end

  6. That nothing is so nice as not being involved intimately in your kids bathroom habits. It's a very wonderful day when you no longer have to monitor or clean up the poop and pee.

  7. LOVED your list. I've learned that God does more for me and my family each day than I ever imagined.

  8. #9 is no joke! I worry about EVERYTHING now that I'm a mom. I'd like to think it gets better once they're grown and out of the house, but I bet I'll keep on worrying about Lex until the day I die!

    1. Yes, I sometimes think it will be worse when they are out of the house as then I won’t be able to at least see them daily to make sure they are really okay.

  9. Oh dear, you have me racking my brain trying to decide what the 3-letter word is...

    1. Lol- I said it, it was why? Like, why do we have to do this, why does this happen, why? Why? why?

  10. LOVE this! Why is probably the one word I hear 50 thousand times a day...

  11. Hey Emmy, I wrote something like this - almost the same title - a few years ago. I read it often to remind myself of how far I've come! Here's what I learned:
