Kids Book Review Wednesday

My mom was trying to clean stuff out of their house a few years back and took advantage of a time when all the kids were actually home at Christmas. One of the things she had us divide up were the books. Growing up we had shelves of kids books; probably a lot of the reason I have the same for my kids now.

One of the books that was fought over a bit during the divisions, was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.
I was lucky enough to end up with the copy. Probably thanks to the library card I had made for it in my youth that was still taped inside the book.

Do you remember the cards that used to be inside of library books that they would pull out and write your name and the return date on? Back when card catalogs were actually card catalogs.

Jill Kittner was my best friend that lived down the street and I am pretty sure I probably wrote her name in, pretending like she checked it out. She was in Mrs. Lennon's class at school, so 3-L.

This book is great for the early grade school aged kids. It goes through Alexander's day where things just keep getting worse, thanks to a lot of self-fulfilling prophecy. It will leave you chuckling and feeling a bit sorry for Alex but mostly help you realize we all have those terrible, horrible, no good very bad days--"even in Australia".

  1. I love this book it is on my kids shelf along with Alexander, Who's Not (Do You Hear Me? I Mean It!) Going to Move Also by viorst.
One thing that My mom did was write who's book it was in the front cover or just the last name if it was for all of us, along with this is the year and sometimes the month we got the book. This is one of my favorite parts of the books from her shelf. Seeing when we got it.

  7. What a weekend you all had! Glad everyone made it home in one piece. ;)

This book is a fav over at our house. So many movies are being made from these classic kids books; this is one that should get made, too.
