Red Equals Beautiful

When Alex was a baby and her hair began to grow in more, we would often ask-"is her hair going to be red?"

It was soon very apparent the answer was yes. It was a beautiful wonderful red on the cutesy chubbiest baby there was. We could not make it through a store without being stopped multiple times by someone gushing over her beautiful red hair.
(Alex almost ten months old)
As Alex continued to grow, it was very apparent that not only is she a redhead, but she is going to be tall- predicted to be somewhere around 6 foot kind of tall. I knew as she hit those awkward preteen years, she was either going to feel beautiful for her hair and height or like the odd-man out with her unique 'doesn't look like the crowd' look.

So I, along with everyone else who sees her, have told her how beautiful her red hair is.

I think it's worked.

When my parents and little sister were here for Christmas, my mom talked Alex into letting her put her hair into a ponytail. "look, you have a pony tail like me!" my sister pointed out to Alex, to which she replied.
"yes, but I am more beautiful because my hair is red."

Yes, I would say it worked...maybe a little too good.

  1. hahahahah That is awesome!!

We got stopped everywhere when Audrey was a baby! Not only did she have red hair but she came out with a lot of it and it all stuck straight up. It added an inch to her height! It got even more intense if we happened to be with her cousin who also had red hair and was not much older than her so everyone thought they were twins. So funny!

  3. hahahaha! Too funny!!! Kids say some of the sweetest most innocent things! I just LOVE LOVE LOVE red hair!!!!!! Although (and don't get mad at me) but when you were talking about her being tall all I could picture was Donna from That 70's show. Who is beautiful too! ;-)

  4. I love it! I was so glad when my daughter was born with red hair---and then it all fell out around 2 months old and came back in blonde. And then I was bummed when my son was born with blonde hair---and then it all fell out and came back in red! I love them both but am so glad that I have a red head. And to top it off, his hair is curly! We get stopped constantly in stores by people commenting on his adorable hair. :)

PS: Let me explain that the only reason I was bummed for the blonde hair was because my husbands family has such strong "red hair genes" and I was hoping to get a red head. My daughters blonde hair is beautiful too. :)

  6. Tee hee! She's probably right - red hair is gorgeous partly because it's not quite as common as the rest. She is so cute.

  7. HAHAHA! That's funny.
You know, whenever there's a heroine in a book, she's always tall and red headed...doesn't look like the other carbon copy pretty people...always way more beautiful. :)

  8. Oh my goodness. that is so funny! It's funny how the best intentions can backfire on you, isn't it? My bro and SIL would tell my niece that she was smart, just as often as they told her she was pretty, if not more. Now she will tell everyone how smart she is. It cracks me up.

But on the other hand, I hope that she always believes it.

  10. That's my kind of girl. I think she takes after her mom, y'know, with the 'high self-confidence' thing. Rock it, Barton girls, rock it. :)

  11. She makes me giggle... and yes, confidence is becoming on a woman (and on a little girl, most days) ;)

She'll love it one day. Absolutely.

  15. I am 5'10" with red hair. It defines you...I've always loved my hair...not so much the freckles and day-glo white skin but the hair is good. It'll be tough when she's 14 and towering over all the boys but when she gets to be about 18 she'll love the height and the hair!

Just make sure she avoids green eyeshadow and bad perms...not that I would know...;)

  23. Oh my goodness, what a funny little girl! And I cannot believe it has been so long since I have come by to visit you! I need a computer of my own. At any rate, it is better to have too much self esteem than too little, right? Good job on building her confidence!
