A Sticky Situation

I like syrup. When I eat pancakes, waffles or french toast for me it is a necessity. And I don't want just a quick little squeeze; I want enough syrup that it runs off allowing for extra to dip in.

Waffles are the biggest culprit of needing lots of that mapley goodness.

Growing up my best friend lived two doors down. As all 9 and 10 year old girls want to do, we would often have sleepovers at each other's houses. I liked sleeping over at her house as then I wouldn't have to worry about letting my little sister tag along.

After a night of giggling, fun and lots of playing we would wake to a breakfast ready for us. I would sit down at the table with her family, we would pray and then begin eating. My friends mom began, giving just a little squeeze of syrup. Then her dad followed suit. As the syrup passed around the table each family members gave just a proper little squeeze of syrup. My mouth began to water, I knew it would soon be my turn. I stared at my pancake begging to be covered with the ooie goodness. I looked back at their pancakes, I began to panic. What should I do? Should I drown my pancakes like I wanted to? What would they think of me? Would her dad give me a look like what kind of child are you??

The syrup was passed to me. I quietly squeezed just a little syrup with one extra little squeeze that I thought I could get away with. My pancakes seemed to be shouting up to me, no! we want more. I cut up and choked down those pancakes that now seemed like the driest things in the world. And so the next time it was time for a sleep over, I think I probably offered for it to be at my house; because well a pesty little sister was much better than not enough syrup.

How much syrup do you like?

  1. I with you, and I also love TONS of butter on mine as well!! This was not the post to read just before I head off to work...Now I'm going to be thinking about those pancakes all day long!!

My coworkers will probably wonder why I'm drooling.

  2. What a funny story. I am with you on the syrup. My husband gives just a little bit of syrup squeeze. He thinks I am crazy for dousing my flap jacks in syrup. Mmmmm.

  5. I like a lot of syrup too! Okay, I don't want them drowning, because I don't like soggy pancakes either, but I put enough on, and then squeeze a little more off to the side for dipping.
You gotta be able to dip!

  7. Syrup and lots of it! In fact, in waffles I have been known to fill each little square.

  10. Hmm ... I'm afraid I'm not a pancake kind of gal, which would then make me not really a syrup person either.

If this affects our bloggy friendship, I will understand!!

    ;0)

  11. I like a reasonable amount, not too dry, not too syrupy. But one squeeze is simply not enough!

  12. Ha, that's great. I can't stand dry pancakes, but I'm also a syrup snob: It HAS to be the real stuff. Otherwise I'll put pureed fruit or something on my pancakes.

  15. I am not a huge fan of syrup, in fact that picture with all the syrup makes me gag a little. Most the time I eat my stuff dry (or maybe some jam or chocolate chips...hmmmm) . I do like a little on my oatmeal, tho.

  17. We were just talking about this bc we were out of syrup (there was actually 1/2cup) on Sunday when we make waffles before church. Sean was disappointed that there want enough while I was just as satisfied with a bit less.
