Arrogance and School Pick-Up

In honor or today being the last day of school- which yes it is for my kids already- crazy I know!  I wanted to get something off my chest... school pick up.

Lucas' school is about 1 mile from our house.  Driving on a normal day would take about 4 minutes- on school days you are looking at at least 15 as you see there is pretty much one road that leads to the school.  And not only does this one road lead to the school, this one road is also pretty much the one road that runs to the junior high which is next door.

So yea- you can just imagine the craziness this brings.   Overall most people are polite and kind and try and not cause a major accident- but there are always those crazies.

There is a long driveway leading into Lucas school, at the top of this driveway there is an Upperlot.  Parents can park in this lot and their kids can walk up and be picked up there or you can drive down and pick up your kids right in front of the school.   For a lot of the year cars turning into this upperlot (which is really quite small) would end up blocking the driveway- leaving a huge long space where cars could fill it but now have to wait until the kids come out and the cars in the upperlot move.

Thankfully as the year went on, the upper lot cars caught on to what they were doing and once the lot was full, the next car would wait on the street, leaving the driveway open for the rest of us to fill up so we could all pick our kids up at the same time.
The upper lot and the flow of traffic and leading to the long driveway

I try and get there early to get a spot in the that driveway otherwise I end up having to wait for the upperlot kids too.  One day as I was parked in the line, a car comes driving by, they turn the corner to the school and then suddenly are backing up and where did they back up to.

Well right there- butting into a space in the line of of those of us who had already been waiting!
Now why that guy left that big of a space while parked and waiting in line- another pet-peeve of mine- is unknown- but seriously person you think you can cut it front of all of us like that??

This will not be something I miss one bit over summer and to think when school starts in August- I will get to go school an extra time for kindergarten pick up!  Aren't you jealous?  What things have you seen during school pick-up or are you one of those lucky districts that still has school buses.

And since it is Tuesday I am linking up with IA and Shawn

  3. We still have 12 days left, I am so ready for it to be done. Luckily I no longer have to worry about car line. My oldest drives herslef and Peanut takes the bus, it is truly a blessing not to have to mess with those crazy people!

Thanks for linking up and happy summer break!

  4. How rude of that person!! The guy leaving the extra space like that was also definitely not cool.

Yet another reason I'm so thankful that Princess Nagger's school has buses - and she gets picked up and dropped off practically in front of the house. I'd never have the patience to wait in the drop-off and pick-up lines. :)

  5. line cutters should be expelled from the line and told JUST HOW THE COW ATE THE CABBAGE!

  6. You know how I avoid this? I try to be the last car every time. :o) I arrive at the school 15 minutes after they've let the kids out and I never have to wait more than 2-3 minutes. Genius. :o)

  7. I am glad I don't have to deal with this yet but line cutters are also a pet peeve of mine.

  8. Y'all don't have school buses? Is the budget that bad? My kids ride the bus home but I drive them in the morning because the bus pulls up to our house bright and early at 6:15. My boys are still asleep at that time. However, the bus ride home has been a nightmare. Nolan has been bullied so much this year and the bus driver- while very nice- is not a disciplinarian. I have called transportation soooo many times about my kid being physically hurt on the bus. *sigh*

  10. Oh gosh that would drive me nuts! Thank goodness school is out and you don't have to deal with that craziness for a while :)

  11. Me and traffic don't mix...I don't know what I'm going to do when my boys start school.

  12. I only pick up the kids two days a week and it's horrible. Why can't people be courteous and respect others?

  14. So glad I don't and won't have that problem. My kids are not in school yet. When they are in school, they will walk since the hs, jr hs and elementary are all just around the corner from us. Yay!

  15. What, I didn't know there were schools that opt out of having *buses*! That's just crazy... but since we are doing the immersion thing, we are out-of-distrcit meaning I drop him off and pick up.

What drives me nuts is people who drive right up to the front door and block everyone else from moving along theri 'merry' way, I mean, seriously, your kid can't walk 15 feet?!

As for pick up, Henry rides the bus to a stop that I'm waiting for him at, this is awesome :)

  16. Whether there are buses or not, there are ALWAYS parents who think they're above the rules. It's completely aggravating!

We had buses, but I drove the kids because their bus took a one-hour route and we lived 7/10 of a mile from the school. Is that insane or what?

  17. Luckily I don't have to worry about this YET but I HAVE noticed that the elementary schools here are CRAZY! There isn't a rhyme or reason for where people park or any kind of organization. Parents start parking and lining up 30 minutes before school is out to "get a good spot". It's crazy. When I taught in Texas, all the schools that I worked in had an organized pick up with no trouble. I feel bad for you. It must be a headache!

Thanks for linking up my IRL friend!

  18. I do not look forward to this...I remember my mom's experiences with my brothers schools not cool. Lucky for me I went to a small school in small towns and didn't have to get picked up, I walked or drove when I was old enough and it wasn't too bad at all. My the schools my bros went to...ugh!

  19. Pick up drop off lanes I HATE.

  20. Trust me, it's not just the last day of school, I see this on a daily basis. Some parents think rules don't apply to them but what kills me, is the example they are setting for their children.

How exciting that summer has started for you guys, we still have until mid June.

  21. Kind of sounds just like when there is a lane on the highway blocked, and everyone knows it's closed, people still go flying up as far as they can and then butt in vs waiting in the line like everyone else. I'm not the nicest of people and I don't allow those idiots over.
