It is a rare thing when I sleep in. Not by choice- but by necessity thanks to my 6:15 AM alarm clock named Ryder. Saturday morning I got up with him and let Eric sleep in- since during the week he leaves for work before I am even out of bed.
But I must admit- Sunday morning when Ryder was up early once again, I really did not want to get up. "Mommy! Mommy!" I heard him call from his crib.
I went and got him out of his bed and heard Lucas and Alex also already up but playing quietly together in Alex's room.
I brought Ryder into our room and he saw a toy he had left there the day before, it was his race track which was not very quiet. But I sat him down by it anyway and crawled back in bed half hoping the noise would wake up Eric. It did momentarily, but as Eric can do- he was quickly back asleep.
Lucas soon came into our room and asked if he could play the iPad. I told him yes then rolled back over trying to pretend like I could still be sleeping.
Next thing I knew it was an hour later. All was quiet. Eric was still asleep next to me.
I quickly get out of bed heard Alex and Ryder's voices from downstairs. I headed down to investigate.
Alex had set up some of her toys on the table and was playing with Ryder- who was also eating a poptart.
"Ryder said he was hungry so I got him a pop-tart." Alex told me. I saw a chair pushed over by the cupboard so she could reach the child proof lock at the top of the tall cupboard.
I looked at the clock again. "Thank you!" I said. "Thank you for taking care of Ryder and letting me get some more sleep."
I always thought I would dread my kids growing up, but there really is something awesome about them growing up enough that they can take care of things for at least a little bit of time for now. I could really get used to sleeping in.
