Don't Bag My Milk

"Would you like your milk in a bag?"  the bagger asked at the grocery store.
"Nah, that's okay." I replied.  Knowing all too well that heavy milk could easily rip a bag- and hey I was saving the environment by using one less bag. *pat myself on the back*

A week later I was once again at the grocery store- darn family always needing food.  My order seemed extra large today- but I also knew the total wouldn't be too bad as I had taken great advantage of the sales.

The clerk and I busily chatted, Ryder happily holding the bag with two donuts to be eaten at home as a reward for the two great shoppers- he and I of course.

My order rang up and we were on our way out to the car.  I got the groceries all loaded and then headed home.

My usually helpful toddler, had no interest in helping today- he wanted his donut!  So, I got his donut on a plate for him while I unloaded the groceries.

I brought all the bags in, placed them on the floor and then started searching through the bags for the frozen things.  After I got the frozen things put I away I started working on the refrigerated items.

Ryder had finished his donut by this time, so I paused to wash him off before chocolate decorated the couch or carpet.

After cleaning him off I hurried and found the last couple refrigerated things- my donut was calling my name very loudly!

I enjoyed my donut and then it was just about time to get Alex from kindergarten.  The groceries were not all put away- the non-refrigerated things still gracing the floor.   But well- this might be what I always do what I occasionally do- usually putting away the rest of the groceries during homework time.
Non-Perishables can be put away later
We returned from picking up Alex, had our lunch, finished up her homework, avoiding tripping over the bags still sitting on the floor.  Then I noticed there was one bag on the table still.  I usually only put things like bread or buns on the table as I don't want them to get squished during the long short time they are on the floor.  I went over to look in the bag.

It was my milk.

What!  He bagged my milk??  Why did he do that?  Wait, he didn't even ask me if he should bag it or not!!

Yep- totally blaming this one the bagger.

  2. His fault completely. I have left groceries in the trunk before. Completely forgetting I've just shopped? Really? :)

  3. Totally the bagger's fault! ;) We have to bag our own groceries and sometimes things go "missing". Usually I think I've forgotten to bag it only to find it in the back of my car weeks later. :/ Luckily it has never been anything perishable!

  4. I'm glad it wasn't ice cream..that would be a sin for sure

  5. Yeah that stinks, mostly because you have to go back and buy milk again! It's dangerous business only putting some groceries away at a time, but I do it too. :)

  6. Totally the bagger's fault - I HATE it when they bag the milk!!! I don't put away non-perishables right away either - sometimes they sit out for a while :) But I do usually take everything out of the bags. Seems less overwhelming if I can see it all, rather than just 'bags of who knows what' lol! And then, it helps me catch cold things the cashier stuck in with non-perishables - HATE that too....

  7. I HATE when they bag any sort of large jug of juice, milk, etc. Drives me nuts! Usually it rips the bag and shatters!
Was it safe or did you have to toss it?

  12. Do you know in Canada, they sell their milk in bags! (I read that on a blog.) Just a tidbit that seems to relate.

  13. So how long was it sitting out?? Seriously, who bags milk anyway??? Looks like a trip back to the store!

  14. Ugh! I try so hard to line up my cold things all together, so they'll go in the same bags. It drives me nuts when the baggers mix all of my things up. I've learned to check every bag as soon as I get home.

  15. Thankfully, most of the places I shop are "bag it yourself" type stores - wholesale and what not ... and the milk is my responsibility! I hope it didn't stay out too long!!

  16. I do this often too - put away the non-frige stuff later. I thought I was the only one that steps about bags for days. I hate bagged milk too...it makes the bag damp and then smelly. We've since switched to the cloth reusables, which are washable.

  18. My parents left a carton of vanilla ice cream out once...tucked down beneath some other stuff. They set the bag down on the nearby carpet in the dining room with the other stuff they were going to put away later. They didn't find it until the next morning. Too bad that was in the days of paper grocery bags and the entire carton had melted into their rug. It was awful.

  19. It shouldn't have been too bad, right? Now one time we left eggs out for 2 weeks before we found them... that was....... fun :). Tori and I decorated them for Easter (blew out the insides of course)

  20. Oh no! At least the milk wasn't spilled.....

  22. Oh no! I hate it when the milk gets sour. (...and yes, totally blame the bagger.)

  23. Ha ha! Yeah, I never get my milk bagged either, and that's another good reason why it's good not to bag it!
