I got all of the decor from either the dollar store or the Dollar sections at Target and some items for less than a dollar at Walmart.
This year we added some sparkles with a shiny/sparkly table cloth.
At each place setting was a little tin bucket (Target $ section) filled with candies and a matchbox car for the boys and a little princess notebook for Alex (the one she was using in the beautiful pictures from "The Moment" post actually)
The white vases had chocolate roses (dollar store) in them- one for each of us.
The other great thing is that all of the parts of the table setting are disposable: plastic flute glasses (2/$1 at Dollar store),
paper plates, plastic sparkly silverware, napkins, heart dollies. The beauty in that is that clean up is so easy (and since it's a holiday it should be right!)
Dinner was red and white heart shaped ravioli (thank you Costco!), french bread, sushi for Eric and I (though the kids all tried it), mixed vegetables, fresh fruit, and root beer floats and a heart cake for dessert.
And we ate dinner by candle light of course.
It was a great night and a tradition we will definitely continue.
What did you do for Valentine's day?
I am linking this post up at the following crafting blogs

ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet thing to do for your family! Some of my best childhood memories are of my mom making a big deal over the little holidays, like Valentine's Day & St. Patrick's Day. You're making wonderful moments for your children, I love it :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun Valentine's day! and so great of you to put so much effort into it! Visiting from seriously Shawn...have a great day!
ReplyDeleteAww, I love your Valentine's table! We were at the beach on Valentine's day, but I'm working harder to try to make it more special. In the past it's been an overlooked holiday in our house :/
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea. It's a great idea to include the entire family in the Valentine celebration!
ReplyDeleteI actually remember your post from last year and I said I would like to do this tradition too. Guess what? I forgot. It's a really great idea! This year, M and I went out for dinner reservations and hired a babysitter. And then the rest is what you saw on my blog. Ugh. Anyway, dinner was great! And hopefully, next year, I'll remember to do this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
Have you linked up your monthly meme that you're doing with Janette? I want people to see that.
ReplyDeleteI love this! It makes me want to start doing this.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until Piglet is old enough for this. Such a fun tradition! Those raviolis are so cute!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhh I love this!! I'm am SO going to start this tradition next year - maybe that will light the fire under the hubby's butt and get him off the 'Hallmark Holiday' diss of Valentine's Day - especially since I'm a romantic at heart - Princess Nagger is taking after me in that regard. ;)

ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your Valentine dinner post - it's always super cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have another wonderful holiday together!!
I absolutely love this idea of including the kids and sharing that love as a family. Definitely going to do this when our little one is older!
ReplyDeleteI love your table-scape! You are so clever, you know that? I need to plan for this more than the day of next year... and I need to have my own house, too. :) Thanks for such a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI love it. You'll set up our table for next year right!?!? We so need a Costco around these parts! I love your table though. The thought/love behind it even makes it sooooo much better and more special. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLove this, LOVE IT!!! Fantastic Idea. I should totally do this since my hubs works so it's just me & the girls... they would adore this idea. Annything fancy is a big deal in our house :)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a GREAT idea to do this with your kids. I think a lot of parents wouldn't think that kids would be in to this but I bet it will have an impact on how they see valentines day and also how they treat their significant others in the future ... not just on valentines but every day! Filing this away in the "What I want to do with my kids when I have kids" folder. :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!! I didn't know Costco had heart shaped ravioli for V day?!
ReplyDeleteCool!
We always do a small family thing...I just love love having V day with my little guys!
Love everything!
ReplyDeleteSO awesome, Emmy!! So many awesome details. You have lucky kids :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing! What a fun, lovely dinner for Valentine's Day! We had root beer floats for dessert on V-Day too because my son and husband love them! That's good to know about the heart-shaped ravioli--I'll have to get that next year at Costco!
ReplyDeleteThat's the most amazing Valentine's Day I've ever seen! Makes me a little bit jealous that I didn't think to do any of those things. The ravioli is brilliant!
