I am doing a little Throw Back Thursday to a little over a week ago to Halloween, as I never shared our pictures on the blog.
This year Lucas didn't really dress up. He did 'dress up' for our Trunk-or-Treat, wearing lots of rings and metal bracelets to store his energy (i.e. a character from a Brandon Sanderson book), but I had a mom fail and did not even take any pictures that night!
We finally carved our pumpkins Sunday afternoon. Ryder was the only kid brave enough to clean out the guts of out his pumpkin. Everyone actually craved their own this year too, with a little help from Mom and Dad.
Ryder has been planning his design for at least six months now, with the upside down face.
Eric, after being prompted by Lucas did half a face.
Alex and I both made our pumpkins from a design
And Lucas had the Yay-- which is so him.
This year Alex dressed up as a Dark Countess and Ryder as a Ninja. Ironically we actually had that ninja costume from Alex a few years ago, but forgot and bought one for Ryder.
It was a fun Halloween and I actually had a lot of fun handing out candy with Lucas.
Halloween is quickly approaching and my kids finally picked their Halloween Costumes. They were unsure what they wanted to be but finally decided. We don't tend to do really elaborate or extreme costumes, but usually something more simple you can pick up from the store. Today I am sharing our easy Halloween costume ideas from over the years.
I will be starting with the newest and working my way back.

Wow! What a trip down memory lane! My kids have definitely recycled ideas amongst themselves, even sharing costumes over the years.
Since my oldest isn't dressing up this year, it is a big reality of how fast time goes and of the different phase in motherhood I am entering. Life goes fast.
What are your kids (or you) going to be for Halloween this year?
Another Halloween is in the wraps. A few pictures from our Halloween 2016
The day before Halloween, before church, we finally craved our pumpkins.
Each kid drew their own design and actually did most of the carving. Though Eric and I had to help a lot with the gut removal as for some reason all of our kids have developed an aversion for it. I had the most stringy spaghetti like pumpkin of the group of us, it was a pain to clean out.
Ryder wanted to take a try at carving a little bit and ended up taking over and doing most of it himself!
This picture scare anyone else? Thankfully there were no injuries while carving.
Lucas had a three sided pumpkin this year, two different faces and the word HI
I carved mine with a template from a kit
In the end they were all very happy with their pumpkins
This year for costumes, I wasn't sure if I was going to have three kids to photograph, as Lucas said he wasn't dressing up. But in the end, he decided to wear the Rithmatist robe (from a Brandon Sanderson book) that he and my mother-in-law had made. He didn't end up going trick-or-treating (he did go around at the church trunk-or-treat) but at least he dressed up!
Alex also made her Empress costume with my MIL, at least parts of it.
Halloween is next week! My youngest son's costume is supposed to arrive in the mail today and my oldest, isn't dressing up this year. I am feeling a little nostalgic because of that, so today am sharing kids Halloween costumes over the years.
We will start way back when my youngest first dressed up
2005
This is technically Lucas' second Halloween, but his first one he was only a couple of weeks old, so we didn't do anything.
2006
This was his last Halloween as an only child, as his sister was born less than a month later
2007
Alex was almost a year old but already walking- she loved her kitty cat costume
2008
A Bumble Bee and a Fairy
2009
When your big brother is your SuperMan! Will be one of my favorite pictures forever
Alex dressed up as an fancy witch this year-- look at the attitude!
(Just don't look at the groceries I hadn't put away when I took this picture-yikes!)
2010
The first Halloween with all three kids!
2011
The same Superman costume Lucas wore in 2006!
2012
The one (and probably only) year all three kids costumes coordinated. We even made a fun little movie to go with it.
2013
From princess to ninja- guess the princes learned how to fight for herself
It has been fun taking this little trip down memory lane. One thing is apparent, my photography skills have gotten a lot better over the years. Also it was funny to me how some costume ideas got repeated, like Lucas as Superman.
Before I know it all of my kids will be saying they aren't dressing up anymore.. so for now I am just going to enjoy it.
What has been your favorite Halloween costume, for yourself or your kids?
